Emberhalász kör (Fishers of Man Circle)
Introduction:
Our circle started in May 18, 2001, initiated by Tibor Putnoki. Tibor named us, a name referring to the words of Jesus from the gospels: “be the master of love in your life”. For us, this means a community embodying true human values where we turn to our fellows with an open heart. At our circle meetings, we created a family atmosphere: usually we cook together, hike together, sing, recite poems together or join volunteer work.
We mostly discuss topics related to self-knowledge; shared by our group members but we often invite guests as well. Our discussions are honest, open and spontaneous. We leave the floor open for those who would like to share their joy, current tests in life, and experiences that were valuable, had some teachings, or were accompanied by pain, or perhaps, with sorrow. We can gather inspiration or strength from these conversations, therefore we can respond to our own challenges or resolve our issues easier. When at an impasse, we dare to ask for help from each other.
As a starter for the discussion we often read a passage from the New Testament and discuss how the passage is connected to our current daily life. We also ponder upon how we can take some steps towards our own resolutions through these realizations.
We perform songs or poems each year at the International Cultural Gathering of the Light of Love Foundation. For some time we had session at one of our fellow’s apartment who taught us about the art of reciting poems. At times we operate as a literary circle and we were very much devoted. In 2023 we have established the “Fagyöngy Dalárda” singer group.
Many of our circle members volunteer for supporting the work in our national Budapest Center: they receive guests, or give massages to those in need. At our circle meetings we welcome all those who are interested – independent of the age group.
Why it is good to belong here
”A long time ago I arrived to the Bőség street center one evening and I heard a good-hearted laugh from behind a door. I knocked on the door and I was lovingly invited inside to join the meeting. It was a definitive experience for me, the way I was received and accepted although I was a new person unknown to them, so I started to attend their meetings, the hikes, the name day celebrations, joint cooking events and Christmas gift exchange. I have received the greatest gift here, in the group: they supported and encouraged me to recite poems, to perform them in front of an audience, and ever since then all of it gives me lots of pleasure. I am especially grateful to my fellows, Juditka, Etelka and Zsuzsi for their encouragement. We have had some conflicting views with my fellows but we always succeeded in disentangling them. I am happy when we meet, I am always looking forward to these meetings and prepare myself for them. “During the years, as a circle leader, I have seen many human lives and different characters in the circle. I have seen similar situations, difficulties, I have experienced myself, but together we have created true human values – meanwhile friendships were also formed. In our everyday lives we may practice active love, we can experience the tests of love today too but patience, by accepting each other and with true attention we can understand and support each other and ourselves better.
